Grinnell College
I work with Dr. Morris Pelzel (Director of Academic Technology) to contribute to digital accessibility, which involves testing accessibility plugins, auditing existing sites, and creating documentation for the campus-wide platform.
Sites @ Grinnell is an initiative of Grinnell College’s Digital Liberal Arts Collaborative, and offers free website hosting for all Grinnell students.
I collaborate on faculty-led research and teaching initiatives using ArcGIS, R, Python, Omeka, and WordPress. I also support digital scholarship through data collection, analysis, visualization, and peer mentorship during drop-in lab hours.
The Vivero Digital Fellows Program at Grinnell College fosters a digital liberal arts community by supporting faculty, staff, and students in integrating digital tools into research, teaching, and creative projects.
I am using a Systems Engineering lens to model housing dynamics and interventions within the city of Grinnell. This involves collecting and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data from stakeholders in collaboration with my research cohort of three other students.
The Service Leadership Work-Study Program is a paid cohort experience for students to support local nonprofits while gaining professional development and community engagement experience.
Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC)
At the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), I led efforts to integrate Generative AI education.
In Fall 2023, I published a research guide for the DMACC Library: Ethical and Responsible Generative AI for Community Colleges.
The following semester, as part of my Independent Research Seminar with Dr. Laurie Linhart (Director of Honors), I designed the AI @ DMACC toolbox in Canvas LMS alongside the English Department Head, Professor Marie Vogler. This toolbox included tools for faculty to implement guidelines on Generative AI for instructors.
This toolbox was integrated into English Composition I (ENG 105) for all DMACC students.
Phi Theta Kappa is the nationwide honors society for students at two-year colleges. At DMACC, I served for two terms as the Vice President of Scholarship for our Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society chapter.
My initiative to design blueprints for campus organizations to boost diversity among underrepresented students was recognized by the DMACC Diversity Commission during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic years.
